Megan Hernandez
Megan’s exhibit, Conditions of Closeness, is on display June 5 - July 25, 2026.
Enter the vivid, instinctual world of Conditions of Closeness, a new solo exhibition by resident artist Megan Hernandez exploring the strange tenderness of survival, connection, and coexistence in the natural world.
Through richly detailed paintings of paired creatures, Hernandez examines the quiet systems that bind living beings together: synchronization, dependence, protection, tension, and trust. In works like Bargaining, two black swans drift through electric blue waters, bound together by ribbons that feel equally ceremonial and restraining. Across the exhibition, the natural world becomes a mirror, reflecting the ways humans navigate intimacy, attachment, distance, and survival.
Rather than offering direct metaphors, Conditions of Closeness invites viewers into a living conversation between humans and nature, asking:
Do we choose intimacy, or are we shaped by it?
