We’re so excited to welcome Candace Thompson as our newest resident artist at Meredith Sand Designs Studio & Gallery with her breathtaking exhibit, Into the Mystic. Candace is a surrealist painter drawn to the dreamlike and the unexpected, and her canvases shimmer with both ethereal pastels and bursts of bold, expressive color. Each piece feels alive—delicate yet powerful—inviting viewers into a world where imagination and wonder take center stage.

Candace’s journey as an artist has been shaped by her time in Italy, where she fell in love with the textures of old architecture, the intricacy of mosaics, and the faded beauty of frescoes and sculptures. These influences whisper through her work, blending history and timeless artistry with her own vibrant, contemporary voice. Music and faith also play an integral role in her creative process, adding rhythm, reverence, and a deep sense of storytelling to her paintings.

What makes Candace’s art especially magical is her openness to discovery—she doesn’t follow a strict process but instead lets each painting unfold on its own. The finished piece often surprises even her, always in the most joyful way.
